In 2025 and 2026, a number of changes to requirements for European travel will be taking effect. Most countries will require you to submit an online application that will need to be approved prior to your travel; this is not technically a visa.
The new requirements aren't too burdensome, and I'll help you with everything you need to know when you book your trip with me. I'm here to ensure your travels remain seamless and stress-free.
Here is what we know so far about the new requirements:
New Entry Requirements for Travel to the UK
As of January 8, 2025, visitors from the United States now need to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) before entering the United Kingdom. This applies to all travel to England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
This involves a straightforward online application that can be completed quickly. Contact me to plan your next trip, and I will be sure you have the information you need.
You can find complete details and apply through the official UK Government ETA page or download the UK ETA app.
Key details:
Cost: £10 per person
Application open through UK Visa and Immigration Services
Required for all travelers, regardless of age
Valid for two years or until passport expiration
Allows multiple entries with stays up to 6 months
Required even for airport transfers and layovers

New Entry Requirements for Travel to The Rest of Europe (Except the UK)
Most European countries are implementing a European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) in the last quarter of 2026 (with the exception of the UK, which started a different system already; see above).
This system will require you to fill out an online application and obtain authorization for entry into popular countries like France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, and many others.
The application process is expected to be fairly simple and quick, but you will need to make sure to do it before departing for the airport.
Full details will be available through the official European Union ETIAS Website, the European Commission Travel Page, and Schengen Visa Info.
The key details:
Cost: €7 per person
Fee waived for travelers under 18 or over 70
Valid for three years or until your passport expires (whichever comes first)
Covers multiple entries
Not required for layovers within airport security areas
Not required for travel to the Republic of Ireland (see below for Northern Ireland)
Additional details about country-specific requirements and applications will be available at the links above.

Private Jet Considerations
For those traveling via private jet, there are several important considerations regarding the new requirements. When you book with me, I will guide you through the process.
With both systems, the requirements apply to all arrivals, including those by private jet. However, some private aviation terminals offer VIP customs and immigration services that can be arranged in advance, dedicated immigration facilities, and expedited border control.
So arrival by private jet, as usual, will continue to be a more painless process.
How Will This Impact My Arrival in Europe?
These new requirements are part of a broader modernization of European border control but are not expected to cause many delays. Many entry points will be implementing automated kiosks for passport and biometric scanning, which should help reduce wait times at immigration.
